Russia begins preparations for G20 summit in Japan

MOSCOW, Feb 8, 2019, TASS. The Kremlin has begun preparations for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s participation in the next G20 summit, reported the TASS.

According to a statement published on the Kremlin’s website, “the inter-agency commission on Russia’s participation in G20 activities has held its first meeting.” The meeting’s participants paid particular attention “to comprehensive preparations for the Russian president’s participation in the next Group of 20 summit, scheduled to take place in Osaka on June 28-29, 2019.”

The commission was set up by the president’s decision in order to “enhance mechanisms to develop unified positions and coordinate the activities of federal authorities and interested organizations aimed at promoting Russia’s interests in the G20.” Russian Presidential Envoy to the G20 Svetlana Lukash chairs the commission.

“The G20 summit held in Buenos Aires in December 2018 has shown that leading global economies still consider the G20 to be the most effective and popular platform for multilateral cooperation on a wide range of global social and economic issues,” the statement reads.
