JAKARTA, Jun 20, 2019, Jakarta Globe. Three miners died after a landslide hit an illegal tin mine in a village in Central Bangka, a district in the Bangka Belitung Islands province, on Tuesday, reported the Jakarta Globe.

“Faulty mining methods coupled with medium-intensity rain might have caused the landslide,” Rita Rosita Simatupang from the National Disaster Mitigation Agency said on Wednesday.

She said rescuers rushed to evacuate the victims and managed to rescue one miner who was injured. Another miner is still missing.

“Rescue operation was halted this afternoon due to more rains,” Rita said.

Illegal mining for tin and sand is common practice in the area.
