Indonesia becoming world’s top halal goods producer: VP

JAKARTA, Jun 3, 2021, ANTARA. Vice President Ma’ruf Amin believes Indonesia will become the biggest halal producer globally owing to its myriad potentials and governmental support through Government Regulation No. 39 of 2021 on the implementation of Halal Product Assurance, ANTARA reported.

“Seeing the various potentials that we have along with the government’s support, I am optimistic that Indonesia would become the largest producer of halal products in the world in future,” Amin noted in his opening remarks at the online Indonesia Industrial Muslim Exhibition (ii Motion) here on Thursday.

The government has also formulated the 2019-2024 Indonesian Sharia Economic Masterplan having four main strategies, he revealed.

“First, strengthening the halal value chain that consists of the halal food and beverage industry, halal tourism, Muslim fashion, halal media and recreation, halal pharmacy and cosmetics, and renewable energy,” he noted.

The three other strategies are bolstering Islamic finance; strengthening micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs); and utilizing and strengthening the digital economy.

Meanwhile, quoting data of the World Population Review, the vice president noted that the number of Muslims worldwide reached 1.9 billion, with Indonesia being the country, with the largest Muslim population.

“This shows that Indonesia has a large market potential for Muslim products. We certainly want Indonesia to also become the largest producer and exporter of halal products in the world,” Amin affirmed.

Amin urged relevant ministers to drive the nation to become a global halal producer in the food, beverage, fashion, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and tourism fields.

“One of them is through organizing this event to encourage the promotion and publication of Indonesian Muslim products, so that they are increasingly known in the eyes of the world,” he stated.
