MANILA, Dec 29, 2018, Philippine Star. More than 900 families have been affected by Tropical Depression Usman, which made landfall in Eastern Samar Saturday morning and weakened into a low pressure area, reported the Philippine Star.

Although storm warning signals have been lifted, the state weather bureau said moderate to heavy rains will prevail over CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Aurora.

Latest available data from the Philippine government’s disaster monitoring agency show a total of 949 families in 22 barangays in Region V were affected by “Usman.”

The heavy rains of “Usman” flooded 12 road sections in Regions V and VIII, and set off deadly landslides that killed three people in Legazpi City, Albay.

The unfavourable weather condition also prompted the cancelation of several flights and shutting down of several grids and power plants in Regions V and VII. Sea travels were also prohibited, stranding a total of 19,491 passengers.

As of 7 a.m., 1,169 families in 29 barangays in Region VIII were pre-emptively evacuated.
