PHNOM PENH, Aug 16, 2020, Khmer Times. Khmer Win Party leader Soung Sophorn was arrested yesterday and is being questioned in court on allegations of incitement over border demarcation issues, Khmer Times reported.

Kuch Kimlong, spokesman for the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, said the arrest was made after Sophorn distorted the truth about border issues and accused the Cambodia Border Affairs Committee of committing treason.

He added that Sophorn is being held by municipal court police pending further legal proceedings.

Sophorn is among leading people who recently joined protests against the arrest of Rong Chhun, president of the Cambodian Confederation of Unions. Chhun was arrested over his remarks on Cambodia-Vietnam border demarcation issues.

Last week, City Hall rejected Khmer Win Party’s application to hold a demonstration and parade at Freedom Park to demand Chhun’s release.
