Missed from Malaysian resort Irish girl Nora not found after a week of searches

NILAI, Aug 10, 2019, Bernama. One week ago, Irish girl Nora Anne Quoirin, 15, went missing from a resort here, and the search and rescue operation (SAR) team – which includes the special forces unit of the Royal Malaysian Police and VAT 69 commandos – are still desperately searching for her, reported the New Straits Times.
A check by Bernama this morning found that the operation area was covered with thick mist hovering over the area, which is surrounded by dense, hilly forests close to Bukit Berembun.
For the past week, weather conditions have been unpredictable, with heavy rain hampering rescue efforts in the past two days.
The wet weather caused the ground to become wet, slippery and muddy – adding to the challenges faced by the SAR team.
From as early as 7am today, journalists from local and international media outlets have gathered near the forest for the latest news on the search operations.
Meanwhile, security assets were seen transporting SAR personnel into the search vicinity as early as 7am. The operation continues until 4 am the next morning, every day.
As of yesterday, the number of SAR personnel has increased to 261, and will be further strengthened with the involvement of a VAT 69 commando team and the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU).
Besides police, the SAR operation involves personnel from the General Operations Force (PGA) 4th Battalion, the Senoi Praaq unit from the PGA 3rd Battalion, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) and the state Forestry Department.
Nora, who has a learning disability, arrived with her family at The Dusun Resort near Seremban on Saturday, Aug 3, for a two-week holiday.
She was discovered missing from her room at 8am the following day.
