New Phnom Penh international airport will be ready by 2023: PM

PHNOM PENH, Jun 22, 2020, The Khmer Times. Prime Minister Hun Sen said this morning that the new Phnom Penh International Airport is 30 percent completed and will be finished by 2023, The Khmer Times reported.

During the site visit of the new Phnom Penh International Airport, Mr Hun Sen said that new the airport will be a 4F-class airport. He added that the new Phnom Penh International Airport is able to accommodate Airbus A380-800 and Boeing 747-800.

“It is expected that when the new Phnom Penh International Airport is fully opened, Cambodia is able to attract more international visitors and investors to the Kingdom. This airport has invested about $1.5 billion.

The project was announced in early 2018 under the investment company e Cambodia Airport Investment.

Cambodia Airport Investment Co Ltd, a joint-venture between a local conglomerate OCIC owned by Oknha Pung Kheivse, and the government’s State Secretariat of Civil Aviation. Of the total investment, $1.1 billion will come from loans from foreign banks, $280 million from the Oversea Cambodia Investment Corporation, a local company, and $120 million in registration capital.

OCIC has invested in numerous big projects in Cambodia, including Diamond Island Development City, Olympia City, and, most notably, Chroy Changvar Satellite City.
