MANILA, Jun 12, 2020, PhilStar. A street in Navotas was placed under lockdown for five days amid the spike in the number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, The Philippine Star reported.

Mayor Toby Tiangco placed H. Monroy street in Barangay Navotas West under lockdown beginning yesterday until Monday.

Of the 14 cases of COVID-19 in the area, 10 were members of a family who attended a gathering on May 19, Tiangco said.

Tiangco said he would look into the supposed event that was done while Metro Manila was under modified enhanced community quarantine.

Apart from essential workers, employees at the Navotas fish port are exempted from the lockdown.

Tiangco urged the residents to stay home following reports of family members contracting the virus.

He said 13 relatives were found positive for COVID-19 in Barangays Sipac, North Bay Boulevard South Dagat-Dagatan and NBBS Kaunlaran.

As of Wednesday, there were 292 COVID-19 infections in Navotas with 36 deaths.

No COVID deaths in San Juan

In San Juan, no COVID-19 deaths were recorded in the city in the past two weeks, according to Mayor Francis Zamora.

“For 15 straight days, no deaths have been recorded among the residents,” Zamora said in a statement.

He said only one COVID-19 infection was posted in the city since Wednesday.
