Mayor-elect of Leyte-city wins by only one vote in Philippines

MANILA, May 14, 2019, PhilStar. Leyte Mayor-elect Remedio Veloso squeaked past his opponent incumbent Mayor Susan Ang in a razor close race, with Veloso garnering only one vote more than Ang, reported the Philippine Star.

Veloso, who ran under the United Nationalist Alliance, bested PDP-Laban candidate Ang with 8,829 votes.

Reelectionist Ang fell short after garnering 8,828 votes to her name.

Days before the elections, Ang’s camp was caught in the crossfire of violence as Leyte town administrator Levi Mabini was shot dead in the incumbent mayor’s home.
