NAY PYI TAW, Apr 29, 2020, Myanmar Times. The general parliamentary election in Myanmar is likely to be held in November, a member of the Union Election Commission said on April 28, Myanmar Times reported.

U Myint Naing, a member of the Union Election Commission (UEC), told the Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV) the actual date would be announced later.

“The 2020 general election is likely to be held in November like before,” he said. “The 2020 general election must be held. We’ll announce the date just like before, neither too early nor too late.”

The 2010 and 2015 elections held on November 7 and November 8, respectively, were announced three or four months ahead of the actual dates.

U Myint Naing said India, which has about 900 million voters, announced the date one month ahead of the poll. Thailand announces the dates three months ahead of the polls, he added.

Political parties, election-related organizations and analysts were worried that it would not be able to hold election in this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
