Cambodia’s Health Minister visits airport after the first coronavirus infection detected

PHNOM PENH, Jan 28, 2020, The Khmer Times. Health Minister Mam Bun Heng today visited Preah Sihanouk International Airport after the Kingdom has detected its first Novel Coronavirus infection in Preah Sihanouk province, The Khmer Times reported.

After monitoring the situation at Preah Sihanouk International Airport today, Mr Bun Heng visited the Chinese national, Jia Jianhua, 60 year-old man, who has been infected with Novel Coronavirus and admitted to Preah Sihanouk provincial referral hospital.

On Monday, the Health Ministry announced that the first case of Novel Corona was detected on Mr Jia who returned from Wuhan with his three family members since January 23.

After the Pasteur Institute of Cambodia took specimens from the noses and throats of Mr Jia and his family members, the results confirmed specimens of Mr Jia tested positive for the Novel Coronavirus.

Mr Bun Heng said that Mr Jia is now quarantined at the provincial referral hospital and health officials are monitoring him while his family members are also being monitored at the hospital.

Oum Reatrey, Banteay Meanchey provincial governor, and his officials today donated masks to foreign tourists and Cambodians at Poipet International Checkpoint to prevent infection of Novel Coronavirus.
