Mongolia’s Democratic Party members urge resignations of its leaders after parliamentary election defeat

ULAANBAATAR, Jun 25, 2020, News.mn. Mongolia’s eighth parliamentary election ended yesterday (24 June) with a landslide victory for the ruling Mongolian People’s Party which will mark the 100th anniversary of its establishment in 2021. Now, the next leader of Mongolia’s main opposition Democratic Party has become a hot topic in political circles, News.mn reported.

According to the rules of the Democratic Party, ‘if the party loses the majority seats in the parliamentary election, then its leader, deputy and general secretary will resign.’ Therefore, leader S.Erdene, General Secretary Ts.Baatarkhuu and six deputies have to go.

This morning, DP members, disappointed and angry, are urging resignations of its leaders and demanding reform.

Recently, former Member of Parliament Ts.Oyungerel has announced that she will run for the party leader. Furthermore, former Member of Parliament L.Gantumur, S.Odontuya and deputy Kh.Temuujin are expected to compete for the job of Democratic Party leader.
