PORT MORESBY, Nov 3, 2019, NBC NEWS/PNG Today. Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape will not be traveling to Santiago, Chile for the APEC Leaders’ Summit to market the country’s agricultural commodities, PNG Today reported.

The Summit which was scheduled to take place from 16 – 17 November 2019 has been canceled.

Chilean President Sebastian Pinera made this very critical decision amidst escalating student-led riots and protests staged in the Chilean capital of Santiago.

The riots were triggered, a few weeks ago due to this Government’s increase in metro fares.

Mr.Marape says his department has commenced the work on domesticating the outcomes of the APEC Leaders 2018 Chair’s Era Kone Statement by realigning the MTDPIII with the APEC process to ensure Papua New Guineans enjoy the APEC benefits.

Meanwhile, Mr. Marape said his official visit to New Zealand will still proceed.
