India’s Suman Rao crowned Miss World Asia 2019

LONDON, Dec 15, 2019, India Today. Suman Rao, who represented India at the Miss World 2019 contest in London on December 14, won the title of Miss World Asia 2019 during the beauty pageant. The 21-year-old model qualified to the top three and was announced as the second runner-up of Miss World 2019. Miss Jamaica Toni-Ann Singh was crowned Miss World 2019, India Today reported.

Born in Aaidana village near Udaipur, Suman along with her family shifted base to Mumbai after she turned a year old. Suman’s father is a jeweller while her mother is a homemaker. She has two brothers.

After completing school, Suman began pursuing a course in accountancy from the University of Mumbai. She is also a trained Kathak dancer. In 2018, Suman participated in the Miss Navi Mumbai contest and was announced as the first runner-up. Thereafter, Suman auditioned for the Miss Rajasthan 2019 contest and won the title.

At the Miss India 2019 pageant, Suman represented Rajasthan and won the title as well.

After her Miss India win, Suman, during an interview, had said that she intends to begin a discussion on gender equality among her community and in the global circuit as well.

“I want to be the voice of gender equality. I come from a community where girls go through quite a lot due to inequality, and that also regarding some of the very basic choices. I want to create awareness among them because freedom is about equal opportunity,” Suman said in June.

Suman Rao is an ardent admirer of Deepika Padukone and aspires to be an actor. She has been busy with modelling assignments and her studies since the past few months.
