NEW DELHI, Feb 11, 2020, India Today. Delhi Assembly Election Results 2020 have united opposition parties, including the Communist Party of India, Trinamool Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and even Congress, in celebrating the victory of the Aam Adami Party, India Today reported.

As the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP is set to form the government in Delhi for a third term, opposition leaders rushed to congratulate him for defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party, which had put up an intense fight with an army of political bigwigs during electioneering.

The trends by 3 pm showed AAP winning on 63 seats, while BJP maintained the lead on seven, a marginal improvement from three seats in 2015 polls. Congress remained steady at zero.

Communist Party of India leader and Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan hailed Kejriwal’s win as a victory for inclusive politics. “Congratulations to @ArvindKejriwal and @AamAadmiParty on a resounding victory in Delhi elections. Let this victory be a harbinger for pro-people and inclusive politics in our country,” Pinarayi Vijayan said in a tweet.

DMK chief MK Stalin also congratulated AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal. “I congratulate @ArvindKejriwal and @AamAadmiParty for forming government yet again in Delhi,on a massive mandate. This is clear vindication that development trumps communal politics. Federal rights and regional aspirations must be strengthened in the interest of our country,” Stalin said.

West Bengal CM and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, who was among first to wish Arvind Kejriwal, said that Delhi polls have proven that only development, not NRC, will work.

Mamata Banerjee called up Arvind Kejriwal and congratulated him for the AAP’s performance. Speaking to reporters, she said, “I have congratulated Arvind Kejriwal. People have rejected BJP. Only development will work, CAA, NRC and NPR will be rejected.”

Even as Congress has failed to open its account in Delhi for second elections in a row, the party leaders are rejoicing in BJP’s defeat. Tweeting on the Delhi election results, former finance minister P Chidambaram said, “AAP won, bluff and bluster lost. The people of Delhi, who are from all parts of India, have defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP. I salute the people of Delhi who have set an example to other states that will hold their elections in 2021 and 2022.”

Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also congratulated AAP. “Development agenda has won, I congratulate Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi polls have become bipolar, there was nothing for Congress in these polls,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said.

AAP leader Amanatullah Khan, who contested to retain his seat from Okhla which includes Shaheen Bagh area, said that Delhi has given an electric shock to BJP. “Delhi’s people have sent a shock to BJP and Amit Shah. Work has won and hatred has lost. It is not me but the people who have broken records,” he said. Amanatullah Khan is leading from his seat with a comfortable margin.

The man behind the AAP campaign, political strategist Prashant Kishor also tweeted on results and thanked Delhi for supporting Arvind Kejriwal. “Thank you, Delhi for standing up to protect the soul of India!” Prashant Kishor’s tweet said.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Gautam Gambhir accepted his party’s defeat in Delhi and congratulated AAP. “We accept Delhi election results and congratulate Arvind Kejriwal and the people of Delhi. We tried our best but probably could not convince the people of the state. I hope Delhi develops under the chief ministership of Arvind Kejriwal,” Gambhir said.
