BEIJING, Apr 28, 2020, China Daily. A mainland spokesperson on Tuesday expressed strong opposition to “Taiwan independence” secessionist activities after a so-called referendum was advocated in the island. Some “Taiwan independence” organizations in the island have completed the first stage of co-signing the so-called “constitutional” referendum recently, China Daily reported.

Their purpose is obvious, said Zhu Fenglian, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office. “‘Taiwan independence’ is against the historical trend and will end up in a dead end.

The secessionist activities will seriously damage the common interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Straits and the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation, Zhu said.

“It poses a grave threat to peace across the Straits, and will only push Taiwan into an extremely dangerous abyss and bring grave disasters to Taiwan compatriots,” she said.

The spokesperson warned that the Chinese mainland has the firm will, full confidence and sufficient capability to thwart any separatist attempt for “Taiwan independence” in any form.

“We will never allow anyone, any organization, or any political party, at any time or in any form, to separate any part of Chinese territory from China,” she said.
