TAIPEI, Mar 3, 2022, CNA. Widespread power outages were reported across Taiwan on Thursday, including in Taipei, New Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Changhua, Hualien and Miaoli, Focus Taiwan reported.

According to Taiwan Power Company (Taipower), the outages were caused by an equipment malfunction at the Hsinta Power Plant in Kaohsiung.

Power is currently entirely cut off in all areas in Kaohsiung and Tainan while rotating outages are being imposed in northern and central Taiwan, Taipower said.

In Taipei and New Taipei, the districts affected by the massive power outage include Wenshan, Neihu, Xinyi, Yonghe, Zhonghe, and Banqiao.

The Hsinchu Science Park, where many of Taiwan’s hi-tech companies are located, has not been affected, according to the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau.
