Peru to resume flights to Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil from Oct 5

LIMA, Sep 29, 2020, ANDINA. The need to know the first destinations accessible from Peru as part of its gradual resumption of air travel generated expectations after President Martin Vizcarra announced that international flights would resume on October 5, ANDINA reported.

In this sense, Foreign Affairs Minister Mario Lopez last night disclosed that, in the first stage, Peru will restart flights to Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil (only Sao Paulo).

“We are focusing on neighboring countries and the region in first place. Then, we would gradually resume the flights to more distant countries. Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil (only Sao Paulo) have expressed interest (in resuming flights to Peru),” the minister said in remarks to Canal N.

“We will restart international flights on October 5, subject to the proper health controls. We are reviewing the last stage of these protocols. Meanwhile we have established contacts with other countries,” he added.

Mr. Lopez noted that flights to the United States, Europe and Asia have not yet been considered.

Molecular test

The government official explained that passengers wishing to travel abroad will have to comply with certain requirements, such as possessing a negative COVID-19 molecular test.

“It should be borne in mind that this issue goes hand-in-hand with (the provisions) of the Ministry of Health,” he stated.

In addition, he reported that health protocols for international flights are being exchanged through the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
