LIMA, Jun 21, 2020, ANDINA. The President of the Republic Martin Vizcarra on Friday (Jun 19) called on citizens to be responsible and adopt sanitary security measures, with a view to resuming commercial activities in shopping centers and conglomerates from June 22, ANDINA reported.

Within this framework, the Head of State specified that this measure is taken in response to the totally justified demand from a part of the population, which required the resumption of economic activities.

“We must guarantee that everyone, who attends (such centers), maintains the social distancing standards. We have to watch over ourselves, that is the responsibility of all Peruvians, let’s be responsible, we are resuming activities but relying on the responsibility of the Peruvian people,” he expressed.

The top official explained that there will be supervision by municipalities, as well as the Ministries of Health and Labor. Yet the most important supervision will be conducted by the people themselves, instead of “expecting an authority to enforce the basic rules against the pandemic.”

“We fight the virus until the end, all of us with face masks, all of us with properly-worn face masks, that means covering our nose and mouth. We know that it is uncomfortable sometimes, but like everything in life, we will get used to it,” he added.

In this sense, the statesman affirmed that the Government is coordinating with the Health Ministry, law enforcement agencies, and security service companies to channel the resumption of activities, which will be carried out “complying with the minimum conditions that we must all meet at this stage of the pandemic.”

Remarks were made while visiting the Lima-based Central Military Hospital, within the framework of a mandatory social isolation imposed to prevent the COVID-19 from further spreading in the South American country.

Initially set to last from March 16 to 30, the quarantine was extended until June 30.

Friday marks the ninety-sixth day of mandatory social isolation in Peru.
