Singapore is an economy of 5.6 million people and a founding member of APEC. When the forum was founded in 1989, Singapore’s real GDP was USD 61 billion, while its real per capita GDP was USD 21,000. By 2016, Singapore’s GDP grew fivefold at USD 295 billion, and its per capita GDP more than doubled at USD 53,000.
