Death from train accident reaches 16 in Bangladesh

BRAHMANBARIA, Nov 13, 2019, The Bangladesh Today. At least 16 people were killed and more than 50 were injured as two intercity trains collided in Kasba upazila, The Bangladesh Today reported.

Among the dead, 7 are male, 6 female and 3 are children, said Brahmanbaria police super Anisur Rahman. Identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Public Relation Officer of Railway Ministry Sharif Alam told BSS that five probe committees were formed to investigate the accident by the Railway Ministry, District Administration and Railway authorities, separately. The Railway Inspection Department was asked to inspect the spot and submit
a report on the accident, the official said.

Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan earlier said that Taka one lakh will be given to the families of the victims each, who were killed in the accident while Taka 10 thousand to the injured passengers each.

Additionally, the minister also said the district administration will also give Taka 25 thousand to the families of the deceased’s for the burial.

The collision occurred while Udayan Express was changing its track at the station at 3 am. At least two coaches of Udayan Express were severely damaged in the accident.
