KUALA LUMPUR, Sep 15, 2019, MalayMail. The Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) has denied claims made by Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob that the halal certification now falls under the purview of the Finance Ministry, reported the MalayMail.

In a post on its Facebook page yesterday, the body’s corporate communications unit said it still had full authority over the halal certification.

“Jakim denies the statement (by Ismail Sabri) and firmly states that up till now Jakim together with other state Islamic authorities still have full authority over any Malaysian Halal Certification,” said the post referring to a news report by The Star Online.

During the recently concluded Himpunan Penyatuan Ummah (HPU914) organised by PAS and Umno, Ismail Sabri took a pot shot at the Pakatan Harapan administration — particularly DAP.

“Although the new government is seen to be led by the Malays, but it is indirectly run by DAP,” he reportedly said.

He went on to claim that the halal certification no longer falls under the purview of Jakim, but rather the Finance Ministry now.

“And we all know who runs the Finance Ministry,” said the Bera MP.
