The President’s directive came after thousands of workers struggled to get rides due to limited access to public transportation amid the implementation of general community quarantine (GCQ) this week.

“Nagbigay ng direktiba ang Presidente na dagdagan pa ang ruta ng mga bus na bumabyahe sa Metro Manila mula po bukas, araw ng Biyernes (The President issued a directive to add more bus routes in Metro Manila starting tomorrow, Friday),” Palace spokesman Harry Roque Jr. said.

“Makikipagpulong ang LTFRB sa concerned bus operators ngayong araw tungkol sa bus deployment na utos ng ating Pangulo (The [Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board] will meet with bus operators today regarding the bus deployment),” he added.

The LTFRB earlier said it would open three bus routes — from Monumento to Balagtas, from Bulacan-EDSA to Montalban in Rizal, and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Loop.

The following city bus routes will also be opened on Monday, June 8: Monumento-Valenzuela Gateway Complex; Gilmore-Taytay; and Monumento-San Jose del Monte.

“This is part of our gradual and calibrated approach in the resumption of public transport operations in Metro Manila,” the LTFRB said in a statement.

The Department of Transportation added two bus routes: Angat, Bulacan to Quezon Avenue, and Dasmariñas, Cavite to the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange. This is on top of the four bus stops at North Avenue, Quezon Avenue, Ayala Avenue and Taft Avenue.
