DHAKA, May 1, 2020, Dhaka Tribune. Several hundred people blocked the Jessore-Khulna Highway, demanding aid as they have been put out of jobs due to the ongoing shutdown following the coronavirus pandemic, Dhaka Tribune reported.

The demonstration created a long tailback of trucks and ambulances on both ends of the highway in Sadar upazila of Jessore on Thursday, reports UNB.

Modasser Ali, chairman of local Narendrapur union parishad, said most of the protesters are from different villages of the union. “They took to the street at Chaulia Gate around 2pm and staged a demonstration for two hours demanding relief materials,” he added.

However, they withdrew their program after the authorities assured them of fulfilling their demand.
