Singapore considers amending Constitution so Parliament can meet online

SINGAPORE, Apr 29, 2020, VNA. Singapore is looking at an amendment to its Constitution so that the country’s Parliament can meet from multiple locations, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The Constitution currently mandates that the Parliament meets in one place.
Leader of the House Grace Fu will introduce a bill to amend the Constitution next week.
The move is considered a measure to support the implementation of social distancing during and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Singapore.
To date, the Southeast Asian country has confirmed 14,423 COVID-19 cases, including 14 deaths.
Singapore’s economic experts estimate that the unemployment rate in Singapore is likely to reach 4 percent in 2020, and most people will lose their jobs in the retail, aviation and tourism-related industries.
