Easter bombings: 140 suspects arrested yesterday in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO, Apr 29, 2019, News 1st. Several search operations were carried out across the island, yesterday (April 28), reported the News 1st.

Two key suspects behind the Easter Sunday attacks were arrested in Nawalapitiya. The suspects are siblings, Mohammad Sadik Abdul-Haq and Mohammad Shaheed Abdul-Haq.

Officers of the Western Province Intelligence Unit arrested the Secretary of the National Thowheed Jamath, Mohamed Farook Mohamed Pawas.

A suspicious motorbike was taken into custody in Thihariya yesterday(April 28).

Meanwhile, thirteen people who failed to provide proper identification were also taken into custody during a search operation carried out at the Dambulla Special Economic Centre. According to the News 1st correspondent the search operation was carried out barricading all the exits to the centre preventing any one’s escape.

A total of ten suspects were arrested during a search operation carried out in Dikwella, Matara.

Altogether 140 suspects were arrested in connection with the Easter Sunday attacks, and police investigations are still underway.

Meanwhile, Police curfew remains imposed in the areas of Kalmunai, Samanthurai and Chavalakadai until further notice.
