400 Malaysians allowed to enter from Singapore daily: Official

PUTRAJAYA, Apr 26, 2020, FMT. Malaysians in Singapore can now start applying for an entry permit into Malaysia, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, Free Malaysia Today reported.

He said they should apply for the permit at the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore two days before making their trip here.

“Applications are open. About 900 applications have been received so far,” he said, adding that 400 Malaysians will be allowed daily to enter through Johor Bahru.

He said only Malaysians with valid permits will be allowed entry at Bangunan Sultan Iskandar and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (Link 2).

“Those entering the country will need to undergo 14 days’ isolation at quarantine centres,” he added. They can apply for the permits at stmsg@mhc.org.sg.

Meanwhile, Ismail said 215 quarantine centres are in operation, with 17,265 Malaysians undergoing the mandatory 14 days’ quarantine.

He added 1, 055 Malaysians returned yesterday from overseas and are all undergoing the mandatory isolation.

Malaysia has so far recorded 98 deaths and 5,742 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

Yesterday, he said police and the army mounted 824 roadblocks, and checked 446,2024 vehicles nationwide.

Out of that, 557 individuals were detained for breaching the movement control order (MCO), with 505 people being remanded and 72 released on police bail.

He also reminded Malaysians in green zones, which have zero Covid-19 cases, to observe the MCO or face action.

He said that police will consider every situation and the reasons given before making an arrest.

On fake news, Ismail said there 238 investigating papers had been opened, with 170 cases still under probe, 11 notices issued and 13 admitting guilt.
