HONG KONG, Jan 10, 2019, Taiwan Today. The Spring Taiwan Food Fair is set to kick off Jan. 10 in Hong Kong, offering a host of freshly imported fruits and spotlighting the diversity and quality of the country’s agricultural produce, according to Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), reported the Taiwan Today.

Organized by TAITRA in conjunction with the Cabinet-level Council of Agriculture, the 12-day event will feature five farmers’ associations from across Taiwan showcasing air-flown custard apples, dates, grapes, guavas, papayas, pineapples, tangerines and wax apples.

The fair is part of a wider campaign to raise awareness of the nation’s produce, establish regional industry partnerships and secure more procurement deals from overseas partners. TAITRA is arranging exhibitions and promotional trips to several other countries and territories in 2019 including Malaysia and Singapore.

Also under the initiative, TAITRA plans to reserve 30 booths for local banana, lemon, rice and tea growers at the upcoming Taiwan New Year Market Fair, set for Jan. 17-21 at Taipei World Trade Center Exhibition Hall 1.

Speaking at a news conference Jan. 8 in Taipei City, TAITRA President and CEO Walter M. S. Yeh said that participating in the large-scale trade shows will build on Taiwan’s recent success in boosting international orders for local produce.

Food exports rose 12 percent year on year to US$4.3 billion in 2018, he said, adding that this demonstrates the growth potential of Taiwan’s agricultural sector.
