SEOUL, Dec 25, 2019, Korea Bizwire. A civic group has set up a special tree to spread awareness of environmental pollution in celebration of Christmas and the end of the year, Korea Bizwire reported.

On Monday, the Korea Federation for Environmental Movements launched a campaign to produce a large cigarette butt tree measuring 3 meters in diameter and 5 meters in height.

The civic group displayed the tree for about two hours in front of the headquarters building of KT&G Corp., South Korea’s leading cigarette maker, in southern Seoul.

The campaign was held to publicize the fact that microplastics from cigarette butts are having a serious impact on marine ecosystems.
