Papua New Guinea’s province beefs up security along borders

PORT MORESBY, May 13, 2020, The National. Security along the borders of East New Britain have been beefed up, says provincial police commander Snr Insp Joseph Tabali, The National reported.

He said this was especially along the New Britain Highway which was the link to West New Britain.

Snr Insp Tabali said police officers were posted along the border to stop people from crossing during the state of emergency.

He has also instructed the rural police commander in Palmalmal, Pomio, to stop people in Amio, West New Britain, from crossing the order to buy betels nut in the Melkoi local level government.

“Police officers are stationed at strategic locations such as beach fronts where dinghies are anchored in the three districts of Kokopo, Rabaul and Gazelle,” Snr Insp Tabali said.

Police are also posted near the Simpson Habour in Rabaul to assist the quarantine team there.
