JAKARTA, Nov 1, 2019, ANTARA. Some 300 zakat (alms) managers from 28 nations will attend an international conference of the World Zakat Forum (WZF) to be organized in Bandung, West Java Province, on Nov 5-7, 2019, ANTARA reported.

This year’s WZF conference is themed, “Optimizing Global Zakat Role through Digital Technology,” Bambang Sudibyo, the WZF secretary general, noted in a statement here on Friday.

With the current progress achieved in technology, zakat managers are challenged to improve and expedite their services along with making the public more sentient of the benefits of zakat for Muslims worldwide, he noted.

The WZF meeting is expected to be officially opened by Indonesia’s Vice President Ma’ruf Amin during an opening ceremony in which Religious Affairs Minister Fachrul Razi and Foreign Affairs Minister Retno L. P. Marsudi, among others, will attend.

Digital technology has enabled zakat managers to have swift access to the needs of zakat recipients (mustahik).

“Our hope is to have a larger zakat collection and spread the distribution of alms for poor all over the world,” he stated.

The conference will feature 25 speakers to speak on zakat management in the digital era, he remarked.

The speakers comprised Dr Syed Zafar from India, Dr Elnur Salihovic from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Muhammad Lawal Maidoki from Nigeria, and Dr M Ayub Miah from Bangladesh.

The earlier international conference of the WZF was organized in Melaka, Malaysia, on Dec 5-7, 2018.
