Three new techno parks to be developed this year in Indonesia

JAKARTA, Apr 29, 2019, The Jakarta Post. The Research, Technology and Higher Education Ministry has announced that it would develop three additional science techno parks (STPs) this year, reported The Jakarta Post.
The ministry’s secretary-general, Ainun Naim, said 22 STPs, in addition to the three, would be developed this year.
“We will develop three more STPs this year,” Ainun told a press conference on Thursday as quoted by Antara.
He added that the ministry had yet to meet the original target of 100 STPs, as there were currently only 18, saying the lack of expert human resources had been a major obstacle because the project required the development of advanced technology.
“We have collaborated with several state universities and non-ministerial state departments, such as the National Nuclear Energy Agency (BATAN) and the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI), to develop the STPs,” Ainun said.
The ministry initiated the Research and Innovation in Science and Technology Project in 2013 to develop STPs.
The development of the parks is one of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s nine national priorities to improve the country’s productivity and competitiveness in the fields of agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, mining and fisheries.
