NEW DELHI, Jan 25, 2019, India Today. The Congress can turn the tide in its favour in the Lok Sabha election if Rahul Gandhi can convince Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav to join hands with him and fight collectively against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). This is the finding of the India Today-Karvy Insights Mood of the Nation poll, reported the India Today.

The results reflect the mood of voters if the elections were held now. The poll shows that the alliance between the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) (in its present form), the Trinamool Congress (TMC), Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will win 269 Lok Sabha seats. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is expected to win 219 seats while others may end up winning 55 seats.

According to the findings of the Mood of the Nation poll, the ‘grand alliance’ of Congress, TMC, SP and BSP can pose a serious threat to the return of Narendra Modi as prime minister.

The Lok Sabha has 545 seats. The half-way mark for forming the government is 272. While the coming together of these parties does not ensure that the combine will cross the 272 mark, but it won’t be much behind. With the support of others, the combine can make up for the three seats it falls short of.

In terms of vote share, the India Today-Karvy Insights Mood of the Nation poll shows that the NDA will get 35 per cent votes, the UPA plus TMC, SP and BSP is expected to get 44 per cent vote share. The others meanwhile will get 21 per cent votes, the poll shows.
