China lauds Pakistan’s efforts safeguarding CPEC

BEIJING, Nov 23, 2018, INP. China highly appreciates the great efforts made by the Pakistani side in safeguarding the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the security of Chinese citizens and institutions in Pakistan, said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang at a regular press conference here on Friday, reported the Independent News Pakistan.

Commenting on the sad incident, he said China strongly condemns any violent attacks against diplomatic consular agencies and has asked Pakistan to take practical measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens and institutions in Pakistan.

At the same time, we expressed our condolences to the Pakistani security personnel who lost their lives in the incident and expressed their condolences to their families and injured people.

He told reporters that the Pakistani side is currently investigating the incident. As far as he know, the Consulate General is currently closed.

The spokesperson noted that the Pakistani side has taken timely and effective measures to protect the safety of the Chinese Consulate-General’s premises and personnel in Karachi.

The Pakistani security personnel have unfortunately sacrificed in the crossfire. We highly appreciate the efforts of the Pakistani side and express our condolences to the Pakistani security personnel who lost their lives in the incident and express their condolences to their families and injured people, he added.

The spokesperson went on adding, “China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners. The pragmatic cooperation between the two sides in various fields has brought tangible benefits to the two countries and their peoples.
The construction of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is an important consensus reached by the leaders of China and Pakistan.

It is of great significance to promoting the development, stability and prosperity of China and Pakistan and the region. It has been widely supported by the people of the two countries and is progressing in an orderly manner.

China will continue to work with the Pakistani side to unswervingly promote the construction of the China-Pakistan economic corridor and better serve the people of the two countries and other countries in the region.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan strongly condemned the terrorist attack against the Chinese Consulate-General.

It noted, now the situation has been brought under control and three terrorists have been killed. There are no Chinese citizens killed or injured in the attack.

The Embassy appreciated the Pakistani Army and Police for their timely and proper action against the attack.

It extends their deep condolences to the two Pakistani policemen martyred in the attack.

“We believe that the Pakistani side is able to ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel in Pakistan. Any attempt to undermine China-Pakistan relationship is doomed to fail, says a statement, posted on the embassy’s website.
