TAIPEI, Apr 1, 2019, Taiwan Today. President Tsai Ing-wen said that her Oceans of Democracy 2019 Presidential Visit to Palau, Nauru and the Marshall Islands was a success and reflects the important contribution Taiwan is making to the Indo-Pacific, reported the Taiwan Today.

The eight-day trip and stopover in Hawaii underscores the strength of bilateral ties with the Pacific allies, as well as the enduring relationship with the U.S., Tsai said. It also spotlights the value of front-line agricultural and medical improvements by International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), she added.

Tsai, who made the remarks upon deplaning at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, said despite the challenges from China, the government will continue expanding the country’s engagement with the world on the strength of its standing as a beacon of freedom, democracy and human rights.

According to Tsai, a highlight during her stopover in Hawaii was the raucous welcome by a large group of students from Taiwan competing in a robotics competition. It was a touching moment to see the country’s youth proudly displaying the national flag and cheering their president far from home, she said.

Tsai also expressed her sincere gratitude on behalf of the government and people for the staunch backing by Palau, Nauru and the Marshall Islands of Taiwan’s bid to play a bigger role in international organizations, adding that the unflagging support of these allies is testament to the shared values binding the like-minded countries together.

As a sovereign country and responsible member of the international community, Taiwan will continue working with like-minded partners to promote peace, stability and prosperity throughout the region, she said.
