Peru President to attend Brazil presidential inauguration ceremony

LIMA, Dec 29, 2018, ANDINA. President Martin Vizcarra will head to Brazil to attend the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Jair Bolsonaro. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on January 1, 2019, in Brasilia, reported the ANDINA.

According to the Supreme Resolution —published in El Peruano official gazette— the Peruvian leader will be outside the Inca country from December 31 to January 1.

The legislative resolution authorizing his journey was signed by President Martin Vizcarra, Prime Minister Cesar Villanueva, and Congress Chairman Daniel Salaverry.

While in Brazil, President Vizcarra will also hold a bilateral meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

About Bolsonaro

On October 7, Bolsonaro won 55.13% of the vote, whereas leftist opponent Fernando Haddad received 44.87%.

Former Army captain Bolsonaro was elected President of Brazil, promising a fundamental change in direction for his country.
