Pan American Games watched by nearly 1 billion people around the world

LIMA, Aug 13, 2019, ANDINA. There is no doubt the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which were officially closed on Sunday, have become a milestone in the sports’ international history. This is not only due to the impeccable organization, but also because of the crowds present at one of the biggest sports events in recent years, reported the ANDINA.
According to data provided by Lima 2019, almost 1 billion people watched the opening and closing ceremonies around the world.
That is to say, over the past 17 days a massive television audience watched the “best Pan American Games in history,” as Panam Sports President Neven Illic called them.
“At least five hours a day, from July 26 to August 11, these 1 billion viewers tuned in and got to know Peru’s vast cultural legacy,” Lima 2019 stated.
The event officially opened on July 26 at Lima’s National Stadium with a spectacular ceremony that featured renowned national artists like Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Florez and guitarist Charlie Parra del Riego.
Puerto Rican superstar Luis Fonsi was the international guest in charge of getting the crowd in party mode during the opening ceremony.
The 18th edition of the largest multi-sport event in the continent gathered at least 6,489 athletes from 41 countries and delegations of the Americas.
These Games included 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals.
3,028 medals were handed out at Lima 2019, including team sports: 419 gold, 419 silver and 523 bronze.
The next Pan Am Games will be held in Chile in 2023.
