Peruvian economy currently operate at 44 per cent capacity: Minister

LIMA, May 13, 2020, ANDINA. Economy and Finance Minister Maria Antonieta Alva on Tuesday estimated that national productive activity will be operating at almost 95% capacity by the end of the fourth phase of Peru’s reopening plan, ANDINA reported.

“By the end of the fourth stage of the reopening plan, the economy will be operating at almost 95% capacity,” Alva projected as she addressed the Congress’ Budget Commission.

According to the minister, a good evaluation of the first phase will allow Peru to move to later phases of reopening in a sustained manner.

The high-ranking official also foresees that the economy will operate at 70% capacity by the end of the first stage.

It should be noted that the national economy is currently operating at 44% capacity due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The economic reopening plan consists of four phases. Moving from one to the other is going to require an evaluation report and everyone’s commitment,” she underlined.

Mining, construction, tourism services, and commerce are included in this first phase of reopening.

“That is the first list of activities that are able to resume under phase 1, provided they comply with the established protocols,” the Cabinet member said.

She reiterated that employment at companies allowed to operate during first phase reaches 1.4 million jobs.
