Pacific Alliance is one of the most innovative integration schemes: Peru’s FA

LIMA, Apr 30, 2019, ANDINA. Peru’s Foreign Affairs Minister Nestor Popolizio commemorated the eighth anniversary of the Pacific Alliance, which he described as one of the most innovative integration schemes. He affirmed the pro-tempore presidency held by Peru is working —along with Chile, Colombia, and Mexico— to invigorate cooperation with observer States, among other things, reported the ANDINA.

“Among the multiple initiatives carried out during our pro-tempore presidency, along with Chile, Colombia, and Mexico, special mention should be made of the dynamism of cooperation with observer States, following the first Pacific Alliance Technical Forum held April 23-24 in Lima,” Popolizio said in a video posted on Twitter.

According to the diplomat, the first portfolio of integration mechanism projects was announced within the framework of such meeting.

Likewise, the official noted the process of strengthening institutions within the alliance through the construction of a digital platform, as well as the reinforcement of its external projection through negotiations with the European Union, the Eurasian Economic Union, the OECD, and Japan.

Popolizio took the opportunity to welcome the high-ranking authorities coming to Lima on July 5 and 6 as part of the 14th Pacific Alliance Summit.

“I take the opportunity to extend a warm welcome to senior authorities who will be coming together to continue promoting development and well-being of our citizens,” he expressed.

The bloc relies on observer countries and represents the eighth-largest economy in the world.

Nowadays, it has become the axis of a new way of doing business in the continent.

On an annual basis, the Pacific Alliance rotates the pro-tempore presidency among its members.

As is known, Peru assumed the pro-tempore presidency of the Pacific Alliance at the bloc’s summit held on July 24, 2018, in the Mexican city of Puerto Vallarta.

It must be noted Chile was handed over the presidency by Peru in 2016, and then Colombia was chosen to hold it in 2017.
