India’s Tamil Nadu announces 14-day complete lockdown from May 10 till 24

NEW DELHI, May 8, 2021, India Today. Acomplete lockdown for 14 days will be imposed in Tamil Nadu to stop the spread of Covid-19 infection in the state. The Tamil Nadu government has imposed a complete lockdown in the state from May 10 till May 24, owing to the rise in the Covid-19 cases for the past few days, India Today reported.

Announcing the lockdown in Tamil Nadu, the government has said the shutdown decision was taken due to “unavoidable circumstances” in the state owing to the rise in Covid-19 cases. The lockdown announcement is one of the first major decisions taken by Chief Minister MK Stalin after taking oath on Friday.

During the complete lockdown from May 10, vegetable, meat and fish shops and provisional stores will be allowed to operate only till 12 noon. All other shops will remain closed.

State-owned liquor shops, Tasmac will remain closed during the 14-day complete lockdown in Tamil Nadu. Restaurants will be allowed to open only for takeaway services.

During the 14-day complete lockdown in Tamil Nadu, only essential services will be allowed to operate. Petrol and diesel bunks will remain open during the lockdown.

During the complete lockdown from Monday, May 10, all shops will be allowed to remain open on Saturday and Sunday from 6 am to 9 pm to help people prepare for the two-week complete lockdown.

Tamil Nadu is one of the top five states that have been contributing the most to the daily Covid-19 cases in India. In the past 24 hours, Tamil Nadu registered 26,465 Covid-19 cases.
